In Barceloneta beach, an anonymous character reads quietly. Backwards, the W Hotel (also known as Hotel Sail) emerges like a steel and glass shark fin. Once again, Duarja works the colour in a spectacular way. Is this a photo that looks like a picture or is it such a realistic picture that it seems a photo?
This visual composition presents different images from the city of Barcelona, combining greenish shades that contrast with a big red line. The final image is dynamic and very attractive; it’s an artistically contemporary vision of the city.
As it is said in the title of this piece of art, we see 2 images very distant chronologically between them. On top, there is the modern tower of Hotel Arts, one of the symbols of the “Olympic Barcelona”. At the bottom, there is the Columbus building with its classic statue.
On top of the photo we can see the shape of the Hotel W, designed by Barcelona’s architect Ricardo Bofill, that seems to emerge from the sea as a shark showing its dorsal fin. At the bottom, we see the “Gold Fish”, created by Frank Gehry, which recalls a huge whale from the Mediterranean Sea.
The combination of acid and loud colours in this image of the towers of Plaza de España, directly transports us to the famous show of music and lights over the water of the fountain, here shown in white. The concept is reversed: the fountain is presented colourless, while all the rest is full of colour.
Visual equilibrium. Chronologic equilibrium. Chromatic equilibrium. We can enjoy of two Barcelonas in this image: the Olympic modern Barcelona and the classic and historic one. This is an equilibrium that makes us think of its conceptual duality.
Barcelona is a city that opens to the sea. The Mediterranean Sea gives us life and joy. In this image, a mother is walking with her son by the seaside enjoying the moment, while the amazing sky full of white clouds covers everything. At the back, the three enormous chimneys are firm witnesses of how the waves cares the whole city.
This image suggests dynamism. The surfer, dressed with his black neoprene, walks by the seaside with his board. We don’t know if he is going surfing or he already did so. What can be highlighted here is how in Barcelona, even in a rainy day, one can practice nautical sports. The chromatic games of the blue sky, the yellow of the central post and the rain...
This image created in black and white can’t fail anybody. Location is the terrace and gardens of the Sant Jordi Palace, one of the most important buildings of the 92 Barcelona’s Olympic Games. Three old men walk around the space all dressed in black, we only can see their backs.
This is an epic image where an old man is training hard to run a marathon. He is training in winter, during a morning with sun light and leafless trees as only public, serious and silent. Barcelona is a city where there is the activity everywhere. Excellent use of the white and black, of the lights and shadows, of brightness and contrasts.
